We’ll also be filtering through the booth in the trade show area at various times each day as well, so you can catch us there if you have questions you need answers to.

Now, SMX West in San Jose was a great show again this year.  Lots of great people took the time to say hello. Personally I’d like to thank the crowd that gathered for our Birds of a Feather lunch to discuss ideas to improve Bing’s Webmaster tools.  The feedback you gave me has been shared across the various teams that touch Webmaster tools here at Bing, and discussions and debates underway.  Heard loud and clear was the desire for Bing to offer an API for Webmaster tools data, a keyword research tool and cascading permissions to make it easier to manage multiple logins to the tools.

Looking forward to hearing from more folks at SES NY, so if you’ve got an idea for a great tool we should add to our Webmaster tool, come by and see me.  If you can’t make the show or the mini-focus group session (noted above), you can always track me down via Twitter: @duaneforrester

SXSW was a blast!  Between the sessions, the events, the BBQ and the parties, it was an amazing 24 hour blur.  Still some messages managed to come through loud and clear from SXSW.  The crowd was after an API, a keyword research tool and support documentation to help them get work done in ways Bing finds acceptable.

Some common questions emerged between the shows as well.

Q: Is "white hat" cloaking acceptable?

A: cloaking should be avoided.  If you are running a site heavy in rich media, be sure to include a matched-content down level experience.  If the crawler and a human see the same content, you’re usually OK.

Q: Will Bing support Yahoo’s Site Explorer tool?

A: Most folks are using the Site Explorer tool to understand which links are pointed at their own site form external sources.  While we won’t comment on another company’s products, we can say that Bing’s Webmaster tools offers deep data on inbound links from external sources.  If a domain is validated in your Webmaster account at Bing, you can see up to 20,000 inbound links to any URL from your site that we have in our index.

Q: How can I increase how many pages Bing indexes from my site?

A: By ensuring all of your pages have deep, unique content.  Remember, Bing is a decision engine, helping users complete tasks.  Be sure your content is compelling, unique and rich.  If users respond well to the content of a page, chances are better we’ll want to keep it in our index.

Keep an eye on the blogs here as we’ll offer up a recap from SES NY!

Thanks for your time guys.
