Blog Post: ISACA Karachi Chapter organize a seminar on Business Productivity Trends and Cloud Computing

ISACA Karachi Chapter is non-profit organization that was formed with a view to provide a centralized forum for CISA and CISM professionals across the country to share experiences, communicate ideas, and assist each other towards career progression and professional growth. Since beginning, the Karachi chapter has been involved in a variety of activities targeted towards enhancing the professional skill sets of the members, and spreading awareness about the requirements of information system audits and security in Pakistan's corporate markets.

In order to provide Networking opportunity to their members ISACA Karachi organized a seminar on ?Business Productivity Trends and Cloud Computing? on March 4th, 2011 in Karachi Marriot Hotel. The event was attended by a large number of members. The event started with a welcome from Vice President, ISACA Karachi Chapter, Mr. Abdul Rasool Hoodbhoy who invited Mr. Zafar Ul Islam, Enterprise Technology Strategist, Microsoft Pakistan to brief the audience on the topic. Zafar talked about top trends in the industry including Cloud Computing, Low Cost Computing, Business Insight, Consumerization of IT and Natural User Interface (NUI). He explained evolution of computing during  past decades and brief the audience on various cloud computing model including Software as a Service (SaaS), Platfom As a Service (Paas) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). Public and Private cloud models were also discussed and audience asked various questions about security and privacy challenges in the cloud computing scenario.

Another area of discussion during the session was about end user computing environment and the speaker briefed the audience on latest trends with reference to NUI, Impact of Social media and ubiquitous connectivity and how it is impacting the enterprise IT environment. The audience were also briefed on Microsoft?s three screen vision to deliver same user experience on a PC, Phone and TV and how Microsoft?s Public (Windows Live, Xbox Live, Zune etc.) and Commercial Cloud offerings (BPOS and Office365) are enabling that vision.

Audience asked many questions throughout the session and showed great interest to learn more about the evolving trends in Cloud Computing specially with reference to Security and Privacy concerns. Organizers of Karachi ISACA chapters promised to host another event focusing on Security in the Cloud Computing in near future.

The event concluded with closing remarks from the President of ISACA Karachi chapter, Mr. Waqar Ahmed Khan, who thanked the audience for attending the event and highlighted the importance of cloud computing and how it is enabling new business opportunities for organizations.
